Transducerinstallation
Itiseasiesttoperformthesemeasurementswiththevesselindrydock,theothersmay
bedonewiththevesselberthed.Itishoweverrecommendedtoperformthesewhenin
drydock
Duringtheseatrials(SAT),calibrationsurveysarerequiredasdescribedintheMS70
ReferenceManual.Basedonthecalibrationparametersdeterminedfromthesesurveys,
propervaluesareenteredintotheMS70asoperationalparameters.
InordertocheckandverifytheperformanceoftheMS70system,westrongly
recommendthatcalibrationsurveysareperformedatregularintervals,orpriortoany
largesurvey.Ifexistingsensorshavebeenreplaced,ornewsensorshavebeeninstalled,
anewcalibrationisalwaysrequired.
Alignmentofmotionandheadingsensors
Thealignmentofthemotionsensorandtheheadingsensormustbeadjustedsothatthey
providezerovaluesforpitch,rollandheadingwiththevessellyingstillwithnormal
trimandatrueNorthheading.Itisrecommendedthatthistakesplaceinthedrydock.
Alternatively,theoffsetsfromzeromustbedetermined.Thisiseasiesttodowiththe
vesselberthed.Followtheproceduresintheapplicablesensormanuals.
Timedelays
Anytimedelaysofthemotionsensorandpositioningdatafromtheirtimeofvalidityto
thetimewhentheyareavailableattheinterfaceportsoftheMS70mustbedetermined.
Theinformationmaybeavailablefromthesensormanufacturer.
Waterline
Finally,theverticalpositionofthewaterlinemustbemeasuredwiththevesselinnormal
trim.Thisshouldpreferablybedoneatnormalsurveyspeed,andmustofcoursebe
repeatedastheloadingandhencethedraftofthevesselchanges.
Vesselcoordinatesystem
ACartesiancoordinatesystemmustbedenedforthevessel.Thefollowingdenition
mustbeadheredto:
X=forwards
Y=tostarboard
Z=pointingdownwards
Therearenorestrictionstowherethecoordinatesystem’sorigoislocatedintheXandY
directions.IntheZdirectionhowever,theorigomustbelocatedonthewaterline.
Note
Theseasurfacewiththevesselinnormaltrimdenesthehorizontal(X-Y)plane.The
waterlinemustthereforebemarkedonthehullwiththevesselinnormaltrimbefore
anydrydocking.
